Baltyk 2 and 3 Offshore Wind: Foundations Are Complete

All 100 foundations are installed for Poland’s 1.44 GW Baltyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms. Turbines come next, with first power due in 2027 and full operation in 2028.

Poland’s Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms (written Baltyk here) have all of their foundations in place. Heerema Marine Contractors finished the installation campaign in the Baltic Sea in early September 2026. The turbines aren’t up yet, so the farms aren’t producing electricity.

Who Benefits and How

Nobody gets power from Baltyk yet. When it works, the partners expect output equal to the needs of over two million Polish households, an estimate whose assumptions the coverage doesn’t give. First power is expected in 2027 and full commissioning in 2028, and the sources don’t quantify any effect on electricity bills or coal use.

What went into the sea

Heerema’s crane vessel Thialf, with about 35 support vessels, ran a four-month campaign. It installed 100 monopiles and 100 transition pieces, plus two offshore substation jackets, and Heerema says it finished well within the project schedule. The project is a joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia. Sif and Smulders supplied the monopiles and transition pieces under a 2024 contract, and Smulders subsidiary Iemants designed and is building the two substations.

The two farms lie about 37 km and 22 km off the coast, near Ustka and Łeba, and are two adjacent farms of about 720 MW each that share infrastructure such as the onshore grid connection. Together they will have 1.44 GW from 100 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines rated at 14.4 MW each.

What comes next

Cadeler holds the turbine installation contract, signed in October 2024. The substation topsides come later: Bałtyk 2 this winter and Bałtyk 3 in summer 2027. The partners put construction investment at about PLN 27 billion, around €6.28 billion, excluding financing costs, when they took the final investment decision in May 2025.

Foundations are the first major offshore step. Turbine installation, cable connection and commissioning still have to happen on schedule. The reports name suppliers but don’t say where the work was done or how much local content the project has, and the installation report gives no noise-mitigation details.

Quick answers

Are the turbines installed, and when will it produce power? Not yet. The foundations are complete and Cadeler is contracted to install the turbines. First power is expected in 2027, with full commissioning in 2028.

Who owns the project? Equinor and Polenergia are the joint venture partners. The reports we read don’t give ownership percentages.
