Comcast Says Eastern Ohio Rural Fiber Build Is Complete

Comcast says it finished a fiber-powered build that makes service available to more than 2,300 previously unserved homes and businesses in five Eastern Ohio counties, with support from BroadbandOhio.

On August 27, 2026, Comcast announced that it had completed a fiber-powered rural broadband expansion in Eastern Ohio. The company says Xfinity and Comcast Business services are now available to more than 2,300 previously unserved rural homes and businesses. The release names BroadbandOhio as a source of public support.

What residents and businesses can order

Residents in the build area can order Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile, and Xfinity TV. Businesses can order Comcast Business internet and related services. Comcast advertises 99.9 percent reliability for the internet service, which is a company claim and not an independent measurement.

The company also points to its Internet Essentials program, which offers eligible households low-cost internet and affordable computers. The release doesn’t state the price, so check Xfinity.com for the current offer and eligibility rules. Comcast says it has funded Ohio nonprofits that teach digital skills and run WiFi-connected Lift Zones, but it gives no dollar amounts.

Jefferson County Commissioner Tony Morelli said access to high-speed internet is fundamental to economic opportunity and long-term community growth. Dan Bonelli, a Comcast regional senior vice president, described the project as part of the company’s commitment to expanding access.

A completion notice, not a funding story

This release reports a finished project. It doesn’t give the BroadbandOhio grant amount, the total investment, or the number of homes that have signed up. It also lists related Eastern Ohio projects in Poland and Boardman, Jefferson and Belmont, and Springfield Township, so some of the 2,300 locations may overlap with work announced earlier.

Why It Matters to You

  • If you live or run a business in the five counties and were without service, you may now be able to order internet, mobile or TV from Xfinity, or business internet from Comcast Business. Service is available now, according to Comcast.
  • Check your own address at Xfinity.com (residents) or ComcastBusiness.com (businesses) before counting on it.
  • Eligible households can ask about Internet Essentials, which Comcast describes as low-cost internet with affordable computers. Price and terms are not in the release.

What the numbers leave out

The 2,300 figure counts homes and businesses that can now order service, not the number that have subscribed. Comcast, not a regulator or independent tester, reports that count and the “previously unserved” label. With no BroadbandOhio dollar amount, we can’t say how much public money went into the build. The release gives no speeds or monthly prices for the new fiber areas, so confirm both for your address before ordering, and it doesn’t say how many of the 2,300 locations are homes and how many are businesses.
